Scott McCreery was named champion of season 10 of “American Idol” on May 25, 2011. The crooner edged out fellow country star Lauren Alaina for the title and Scotty noted that they had been close throughout the season. “It's been a year since me and Lauren Alaina tried out, and me and her have been together since day one and we're gonna stay together. ... Never in my wildest dreams," McCreery noted after getting the news. "I gotta thank the Lord first, he got me here."The season finale reaffirmed the show’s massive audience, raking in 122 million votes from fans. Overall the tenth season of “Idol” pulled in 730 million call-in votes from viewers across the U.S.
