The President of the United States Donald Trump on March 13 declared the ongoing COVID19 pandemic a national emergency.

The declaration by Trump would free up as much as $50 billion in additional funding to combat the outbreak and allow officials to waive certain regulations to accelerate testing and care for coronavirus patients.

There have been 3,802 confirmed cases of infection and 69 deaths in the U.S. as of this writing.

Last week, Roche’s Cobas SARS-CoV-2 test and Thermo Fisher’s TaqPath COVID-19 Combo Kit to detect the novel coronavirus, received an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the FDA, becoming the first and second commercially distributed test respectively, to receive EUA.
