Bruce Springsteen reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart with his comeback album "The Rising" on August 11, 2002.

Many of the songs on the effort, which was the Boss' twelfth studio album, were written as a response to the 9-11 terrorist attacks. The LP marked Springsteen’s first new effort with the E Street Band in 18 years.

“The Rising” took over number one from Toby Keith’s “Unleashed." The album held on in the top spot for two weeks before he was succeeded by Nelly’s “Nellyville.” The album was Springsteen's fourth to reach the top of the charts and his first chart-topper since 1987's "Tunnel Of Love."

The album included the title track and singles like “Lonesome Day” and “Waitin’ On A Sunny Day.” It also featured the track “My City Of Ruin,” which Springsteen had written more than a decade earlier, but would become an anthem of the September 11 attacks after the rocker played it on a telethon for victims of the tragedy.
