Singer-songwriter Shelby Lynne was born Shelby Lynne Moorer in Quantico, Virginia on October 22, 1968. Lynne was raised in Franklinville, Tennessee and at the age of 17 her father shot and killed her mother and then took his own life. Lynne, who is the older sister of singer-songwriter Allison Moorer, had her first major break in the music industry when she appeared on TNN’s show “Nashville Now.” The exposure helped her land a record deal with Epic in 1988. She didn’t break through to national acclaim, however, until the release of her sixth album “I Am Shelby Lynne” in 2000. That album earned her the Best New Artist Grammy in 2001. The album peaked at number 165 on the Billboard 200 chart in March of 2001.
