Baxter International Projects EPS Growth Of 11%-13% By 2014 - Update

Healthcare company Baxter International Inc. (BAX) on Wednesday revealed its long-range financial objectives, growth opportunities and various research and development programs. Ahead of its investor conference, Baxter said that over its five-year long-range plan period, the company expects to grow earnings per share in an 11%-13% range and increase sales 7%-8% on a currency-neutral basis.

The company plans to generate annual cash flow of about $4 billion by 2014. Baxter also intends to continue to focus on innovation and expanding its pipeline by increasing investments in R&D at a compounded annual rate of at least 8%-10%.

Baxter said it expects to ''build upon the company's success through continued optimization of its business portfolio, further geographic expansion, increased innovation and business development initiatives.''

Over the past year, Baxter has initiated 14 Phase III clinical trials. The company is advancing numerous earlier stage clinical trials of therapies too. Some of these are targeted at the treatment and delivery of care for chronic diseases like Alzheimer's, kidney failure, cardiovascular, diabetes, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, multifocal motor neuropathy, as well as public health threats like pandemic and seasonal influenza.

The company also plans to continue to pursue business development opportunities that balance accelerating growth and ensure attractive returns.

BAX closed Tuesday's regular trade at $55.95, down from the previous close of $56.90, on 4.41 million shares.
