Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) reported that its third-quarter net income attributable to the company was $3.24 billion or $0.84 per share, compared to $3.14 billion or $0.80 per share in the same quarter last year.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.81 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Net sales for the third quarter were $98.667 billion, an increase of 1.15 from $97.619 billion in the third quarter last year. Revenues for the quarter were $99.41 billion, compared to $98.35 billion in the prior year quarter. Eighteen analysts had consensus revenue estimate of $99.88 billion for the quarter.
