9 Held In Italy For Arms Trafficking To Iran

Nine people, including Italians and Iranians, have been arrested in raids in Italy on suspected involvement in smuggling weapons to Iran.

Identity of the suspects was not disclosed but reports quoting police said they were accused of illegally exporting arms and armament systems to Iran.

Some of them reportedly belongs to the Iranian secret services.

Italian anti-terrorism authorities are expected to release to the media more details of the operation codenamed 'Operation Sniper' Wednesday.

On receiving information that Italians and other foreigners were illegally exporting weapons to Iran, Italian police have been conducting an investigation based in the northern city of Milan.
