Auditions Being Held For New Smashing Pumpkins Bassist And Keyboardist

Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan is holding auditions for a new bassist and keyboardist to round out the band's lineup.

On Tuesday, Corgan announced that bassist Ginger Pooley was leaving the band to spend time with her new family and that he would hold open auditions to replace her. Mark Tulin of the Electric Prunes will reportedly fill in for the band's upcoming world tour until Pooley's replacement is found.

Corgan previously replaced founding drummer Jimmy Chamberlain by holding open auditions, which is why he feels the same process could easily work again.

"We were lucky enough to find drummer Mike Byrne through an open audition process," he said. "So why not open the doors again to anyone who might be interested for the bass or keyboard position. As you can see from our past and present, age, race, or a person's background is not an issue. Everyone is truly welcome to audition."

Corgan is also seeking a keyboardist whom, he explained, should be able to play "in the prog-rock style of [Deep Purple's] Jon Lord and [Yes'] Rick Wakeman."
