Japan Has Y638.6 Billion Current Account Deficit

Japan saw a current account deficit of 638.6 billion yen in December, the Ministry of Finance said on Monday.

That topped forecasts for a shortfall of 685.4 billion yen following the 592.8 billion yen deficit in November.

The current account shortfall also ballooned 176.8 percent on year versus expectations for an increase of 251.1 percent following the 230.1 percent decline a month earlier.

The trade balance reflected a deficit of 1,212.6 billion yen - also beating forecasts for a shortfall of 1,260.0 billion yen after posting a deficit of 1,254.3 billion yen in the previous month.
