Slovakia July Trade Surplus Rises

Slovakia's trade surplus in July sharply increased from a year ago, figures from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic showed Monday.

The trade surplus rose to EUR 422.4 million from EUR 123 million in the same month last year. In June, the surplus was EUR 502.7 million.

Annual growth in exports eased to 1.9 percent in July from 2.5 percent in June. That said, exports grew for the second month in a row following two months of declines.

Imports dropped 4.2 percent in July after 0.5 percent rise in June. It was the first decline in imports since August last year.

During the January to June period, the country registered a trade surplus of EUR 2.96 billion versus EUR 2.90 billion in the same period last year.
