Romania July Trade Deficit Narrows

Romania trade gap for July contracted from a year ago as exports grew faster than imports, figures from the National Institute of Statistics revealed Tuesday.

The trade deficit narrowed to EUR 520.3 million from EUR 573 million in the same month last year. In June, the country registered a trade deficit of EUR 556 million.

Exports grew 6.6 percent year-on-year following 5.4 percent growth in June. Imports rose 4.8 percent in July, after 9.2 percent surge in the previous month.

The country's trade deficit for the January to July period widened to EUR 3.36 billion from EUR 3.11 billion a year ago. Exports and imports grew 7.5 percent each.
