Sensex, Nifty Subdued In Early Trade

Indian shares opened flat to slightly lower on Tuesday amid escalating trade tensions between the U.S. and its trading partners. Rising oil prices also kept investors nervous.

The benchmark BSE Sensex was down 9 points at 35,461 in early trade after dropping around half a percent in the previous session. The broader Nifty index was down 7 points at 10,755.

Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, ICICI Bank, Infratel and Vedanta fell 1-2 percent in the Nifty pack, while Mahindra & Mahindra, Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance, Coal India and UltraTech Cement rose over 1 percent each.

Ratnamani Metals & Tubes climbed 1.3 percent on securing work orders worth Rs 125.51 crore.

Jet Airways gained about 1 percent after it agreed to buy 75 Boeing MAX aircraft.

United Spirits edged down slightly after it picked up a 26 percent stake in digital payments company Hip Bar for Rs 27 crore.

Oil India was also moving lower despite announcing its second hydrocarbon discovery in the KG Basin, Andhra Pradesh.
