French crypto hardware wallet maker Ledger announced the launch of its Ledger Live mobile phone application. This allows users of the recently launched hardware wallet Ledger Nano X to transact using their smartphones wirelessly through Bluetooth connectivity.

The Ledger Live smartphone app, which is compatible on iOS 9+ or Android Lollipop 5 and above operating systems, will also allow the Nano S wallet users to connect and transact through Android smartphones only by using an USB OTG cable to connect to the wallet.

However, Ledger Nano S and Ledger Blue users can currently only use the app in consultation mode, whereby users can check the value of their crypto assets and view their balances on the go after scanning a LiveQR code presented on the Ledger Live desktop version.

The Ledger Nano X user can now manage their crypto assets and also install applications and update the device's firmware everywhere they go.

Ledger is looking to provide the same features for the Ledger Live mobile app as the desktop version.

The Nano X is the successor of Nano S wallet, which registered sales of over 1.4 million units. The Ledger hardware wallets line is already sold in 165 countries.

The Nano X claims to provide increased security and connectivity with the Bluetooth feature and improved access through the new Ledger Live mobile app. It can store up to 100 crypto assets, which is six times more capacity than the Nano S, and includes an improved interface with a larger screen.

The Ledger Nano X provides users security by isolating private keys from the owner's computer or smartphone, which are easily hackable.

In late November, Ledger had expanded its operations to the U.S. with a new office in New York City to offer custody service for institutional investors for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
