306 new Bitcoin ATM machines (BATM) were installed across the world last month, according to Coin ATM Radar.

With 98 machines closing in the same period, a total of 4898 BATMs are currently operational.

The number of new machines continued to grow at a relatively stable rate, following the rise of the Bitcoin price, the monitor said in its monthly report.

In May, General Bytes and Genesis Coin installed the most machines - 77 and 49 respectively.

These two firms continue to be the top BATM manufacturers. BitAccess followed at third place with 40 new installations.

As usual, United States tops the countries list in May with 176 new installations. This is a 6.4 percent increase from the previous month.

The United Kingdom comes second with 10 new machines.

This is in addition to 217 machines that are already in the country.

However, in terms of the total number of Bitcoin ATMs installed in the country, Canada comes second with 637, behind the United States' 2931.

Bahrain installed its first BATM in May. It is a buy/sell machine manufactured by General Bytes and located in Manama.

The percentage of Bitcoin ATMs that also support other cryptocurrencies experienced a small rise to 69.7 percent in May.

Ether was the most added coin in May with 159 additions. Litecoin came second with 136 additions, followed by Bitcoin Cash with 130.

Coin ATM Radar data shows significant growth in the number of BATMs since 2017, when there were only less than 2000 such machines in the world. And their number more than doubled in two years.

Bitcoin ATMs are installed in 77 countries in the world. More than half of them are concentrated in the United States.

The majority of the world's machines are one-way devices - meaning they can only be used to buy cryptocurrencies, though markets seem to be seeking machines that allow users to sell.
