AU Optronics Aug. Consolidated Sales Up

AU Optronics Corp. (AUO), a manufacturer of thin film transistor liquid crystal display panels, or TFT-LCD, Monday reported higher consolidated sales for August 2009. However, the company's unconsolidated sales for the month were lower than the prior-year month.

The company's consolidated sales for the month of August were NT$37.71 billion, up 1.7% from last year and up 15.9% from July 2009. Unconsolidated sales reached NT$36.91 billion, a decline of 0.4% from August 2008, but 15.9% higher than July 2009.

The company said that shipments of large-sized panel for August 2009, with applications on desktop monitors, notebook PCs, LCD TVs and other applications, were 9.07 million units, an increase of 9.7% from the previous month. Shipments of small- and medium-sized panels reached 19.69 million units, down 8.5% from July 2009.

For the year-to-date period, the company's consolidated sales fell 38.3% to NT$203.49 billion from NT$329.86 billion a year ago. Unconsolidated sales were NT$200.67 billion, down 38.8% from NT$328.14 billion in the same period of fiscal 2008.

AUO closed Friday's trading at $10.11, up $0.08, on a volume of 3.96 million shares.
