Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) reported that its first-quarter net earnings attributable to the company were $496 million or $0.77 per share, compared to $1.05 billion or $1.62 per share in the same quarter last year. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.56 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Net sales and other operating income for the quarter were $14.92 billion, compared to $21.16 billion in the prior year quarter. Four analysts had consensus revenue estimate of $17.22 billion for the quarter.
