Tuesday, Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., a unit of Toyota Motor Corp. (TM), said its sales for the month of October declined 3.5% from last year on a daily selling rate basis, compared to a year ago.
October vehicle sales of Toyota were 152,165 vehicles, compared to 152,101 vehicles in the prior year level, on a daily selling rate basis.
For the month of October, sales at the Toyota Division dropped 5.8% to 132,663 units, while the Lexus Division reported October sales of 19,502 units, up 15.5% from the prior-year month.
Toyota Division passenger cars sales for October were 85,169 units, compared to 84,904 units in the year-ago period.
October volume leaders for the Toyota Division were Camry and Camry Hybrid, recording a combined monthly sales of 30,136 units, down 4.9% from the same month a year ago.
Amongst gas hybrid models, the Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid recorded a 10.3% rise in October sales at 13,496 units. Sales of Corolla decreased 9.4% to 25,717 units and Venza reported sales of 5,035 units for the month.
Light truck sales at the Toyota Division for the month were down 10.0% at 47,494 units. Highlander and Highlander Hybrid posted combined sales of 5,979 units, down 18% over October 2008.
October sales at the Lexus Division were up with sales of Lexus passenger car climbing 7.9% to 10,441 units. Passenger car sales for the division were led by the ES entry luxury sedan, with sales of 4,413 units, up 2.8% over last October. The IS entry luxury sport line posted combined October sales of 3,162 units, up 10% over the same period last year. Light truck sales at the division jumped 25.7% to 9,061 units from the year-ago month.
October sales of TMS Hybrids were at 18,757 units, up 10.9%, compared to the year-ago month. Toyota Division recorded sales of 15,603 hybrids for the month, while Lexus Division reported sales of 3,154 hybrids.
There were 28 selling days this month, compared to 27 selling days last October.
For the calendar-year-to-date, vehicle sales of Toyota dropped 25.5% to 1,448,589 vehicles from 1,945,406 vehicles in the prior year, on a daily selling rate basis. Sales at the Toyota Division for the period dropped 25.8% to 1,279, 679 units last year, while the Lexus Division reported sales of 168,910 units, down 23.4% from the prior-year period.
TM is currently trading at $79.01, down $0.11 or 0.14%, on a volume of 0.24 million shares on the NYSE.
