Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. (WPI) posted third quarter net income of $63.0 million, or $0.55 per diluted share, compared to $71.1 million or $0.62 per share in the prior year quarter.
Excluding special items, adjusted net income for the quarter was $76.1 million or $0.66 per share, compared to $54.0 million or $0.47 per share in last year quarter.
On average, 15 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.65 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Net revenue for the quarter was $662.1 million, compared to $640.7 million last year. Fourteen Wall Street analysts expected revenues of $688.53 million.
Looking forward, for the fiscal year 2009, Watson now estimates GAAP earnings per share in the range of between $2.04 and $2.12, compared to its previous forecast range of $2.13 to $2.21. The company affirms 2009 Adjusted earnings per share to range between $2.50 and $2.58. Street analysts expect earnings of $2.55 per share.
