US Airways Group October Traffic Falls - Update

US Airways Group, Inc. (LCC) said its consolidated traffic and capacity fell in October, as compared to the same month last year.

On a consolidated basis, the airline flew 4.86 billion revenue passenger miles in October, down 0.6% from 4.89 billion revenue passenger miles flown in the same month a year earlier.

Consolidated capacity fell 1.7% to 5.92 billion available seat miles last month from 6.02 available seat miles last year.

US Airways Group reported a consolidated load factor of 82.2% for October 2009, compared to 81.2% in October 2008.

US Airways Group's mainline capacity fell 0.8% to 4.67 billion revenue passenger miles, while mainline capacity declined 1.6% to 5.65 available seat miles. The airline reported a mainline load factor of 82.6% for October 2009, compared to 81.9% in October 2008.

For the year-to-date period, consolidated traffic fell 4.6% to 51.02 billion revenue passenger miles and consolidated capacity declined 5% to 62.30 billion available seat miles.

The company reported a consolidated load factor for the year-to-date-period of 81.9%, compared to 81.6% for the same period last year.

US Airways President Scott Kirby said, "Our October consolidated (mainline and Express) passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) decreased approximately 10 percent versus the same period last year while total revenue per available seat mile decreased approximately 9 percent on a year-over-year basis. The revenue outlook continues to show material signs of improvement with continued strength in both close-in bookings and yields."

US Airways Group shares are currently trading at $3.02, up 9 cents or 3.07%.
