Tourist arrivals in Mauritius dropped 9.7% year-on-year to 608,885 in the first nine months of the year, the Central Statistics Office reported on Wednesday. Arrivals from Europe dropped 7% in the third quarter, while arrivals from the African mainland and Asia fell 9.6% and 20.6%, respectively.
The statistical office also said that gross tourism receipts as estimated by the Bank of Mauritius plunged 16.6% annually to MUR 25.69 billion in the first nine months of the year.
During the period, total visitor arrivals slid 8.4% on year to 819,741, while passenger departures shed 7.1% to 848,060.
