Stocks continue to turn in a lackluster performance in mid-afternoon trading on Thursday, with traders staying on the sidelines ahead of the release of key employment data. The major averages have had difficulty sustaining any significant moves for the second straight day.
Despite the choppy trading, significant strength is visible among semiconductor, healthcare provider, and commercial real estate stocks. On the other hand, notable weakness has emerged among health insurance, oil service, and banking stocks.
The major averages have moved roughly sideways in recent trading, hovering modestly above the unchanged line. The Dow is currently up 5.45 at 10,458.13, the Nasdaq is up 9.69 at 2,194.72 and the S&P 500 is up 1.89 at 1,111.13.
