Telecom Minister A. Raja alleged in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) Monday that Reliance Communication and its other subsidiaries had under reported revenues during 2006-07 and 2007-08, media reported.
Raja said during Question Hour that there was an under reporting of Rs.1,000 crore to Rs.1,500 crore by the telecom firms to avoid licence fee payment in which the government might have lost about Rs.250 crore.
The Department of Telecom or DoT had appointed special auditors to scrutinize the financial accounts of the five leading companies which alleged to have under reported revenues to the telecom regulator, TRAI.
The auditors have observed that three companies belonging to the Anil Ambani Group had under reported the revenues. The observations are being examined by the DoT, said the Minister adding that necessary actions would likely be taken by the end of next month. He said a committee headed by member of Finance was examining the observations.
