4 Students Killed In Iraq Bomb Explosion

Five people, four of them students, were killed and 34 others wounded in a bomb explosion in a school in the Iraqi capital.

The students were returning to their primary school in Baghdad Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City after a holiday Monday afternoon, when the bomb exploded.

The explosion, which left a crater on the ground, occurred just outside the main entrance of the school and severely damaged nearby houses.

Despite a fall in violence in Iraq since last year, a number of recent blasts have raised fears that sustained violence could return to the country, especially after the U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraqi cities and major towns in June.

Pentagon plans to end combat operations across Iraq by September next year, leaving the challenging task of maintaining the country's security to Iraqi forces.
