PepsiCo. (PEP) said that it is discontinuing Gatorade Tiger Focus sport beverage, which is named after famous golfer Tiger Woods. According to the company, the decision was based on the poor performance of the beverage and not related to Woods' behavior or alleged affairs.
"We decided several months ago to discontinue Gatorade Tiger Focus along with some other products to make room for our planned series of innovative products in 2010," the company said in a statement.
The company launched the Tiger Focus drink in the U.S. in March 2008. It contains theanine, a chemical found in green tea, which is used to reduce stress and anxiety.
Woods has been under severe scrutiny since the car crash on November 27. It brought his personal life into public scrutiny and made him to admit unspecified transgressions. Woods will lose sales-based royalties due to the withdrawal of the drink.
PEP closed Tuesday's trading at $63.48, down $0.75, on a volume of 6.16 million shares.
