Kier Group Plc (KIE.L) was awarded a contract by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council to repair and maintain 9,000 houses in the borough under a contract with a potential value of £110m. The company said the contract was won in competitive tender when the existing contract with Inspace came up for renewal.
The contract comprises housing repairs, planned maintenance improvement and environmental work in Wombwell, Hoyland and the Dearne. Additionally, the company stated that the 5-year contract, which is extendable to ten, will see the contract staff transfer from Inspace to Kier which will assume operations from 1 April 2010.
