BMC Software, Mylan Added To Nasdaq-100 Index

BMC Software Inc. (BMC) and Mylan Inc. (MYL) have been added to the Nasdaq-100 Index, effective with the market open on Monday, December 21.

The Nasdaq-100 Index consists of 100 of the largest, most innovative domestic and international non-financial securities listed on Nasdaq Stock Market based on market capitalization.

Houston, Texas-based BMC develops software that provides system and service management solutions primarily for enterprises in the United States and internationally.

Canonsburg, Pennsylvania-based Mylan is a generic drug maker. It operates in three segments: Generics, Specialty, and Matrix.

Mylan's common shares will also be included in Nasdaq's PowerShares QQQ. PowerShares QQQ is an Exchange Traded Fund or ETF, that seeks to replicate the NASDAQ-100 Index. It is used by investment professionals, private investors and financial advisors.

According to an announcement by the Nasdaq on Dec. 11, another five companies will also be added the Nasdaq-100 index. The companies include Vodafone Group Plc (VOD), Mattel Inc. (MAT), Qiagen N.V. (QGEN), SanDisk Corp. (SNDK), and Virgin Media Inc. (VMED).
