Darden Restaurants Q2 Profit Rises; Narrows FY10 EPS View - Quick Facts 2

Thursday, Darden Restaurants Inc. (DRI) reported second-quarter net income of $60.3 million, compared to net income of $59.7 million in the same quarter last year. On a per share basis, net income was $0.43 per share, flat with the year ago quarter.

Income from continuing operations was $61.2 million or $0.43 per share, up from $58.5 million or $0.42 per share in the prior year quarter.

On average, 25 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.42 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Sales for the quarter declined to $1.64 billion, from $1.67 billion in the comparable quarter last year. Analysts expected the company to report revenue of $1.65 billion for the quarter.

Looking ahead to the fiscal year 2010, the company expects net income in the range of $2.65 - $2.76 per share. Previously the company expected fiscal year 2010 earnings to be in the range of $2.59 - $2.85 per share. Analysts currently anticipate the company to earn $2.75 per share for the full year.
