Wednesday, discount variety stores chain owner Dollar Tree, Inc. (DLTR) announced that in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission it has voluntarily recalled 204,000 tool bench utility knifes due to a laceration hazard.
Chesapeake, Virginia-based Dollar Tree said that consumers should stop using recalled products immediately and return it to the store, where it was purchased for a full refund.
The company said that it has so far received one report of a laceration due to its utility knife. The hazard it poses to customers is that the utility knife's blade can slide past the blade support during use.
Greenbrier International, Inc. is the chief importer of this product, which is manufactured in China.
Dollar Tree described the knife as, "black or gray and measures about 6 inches long and about 1 1/4 inches wide. The package includes an extra blade. "Tool Bench Utility Knife" is printed on the front of the product's packaging. "975942," date code "93" and "UPC 639277759429" are printed on the back of the packaging."
The utility knife has been sold at Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Greenbacks and Deal$ stores nationwide from April 2009 through October 2009 for about $1.
DLTR is currently trading at $48.98, up $0.19 or 0.39%, on a volume of 106,524 shares on the Nasdaq.
