At least nine workers were killed and many more injured on Friday after a bridge under-construction in the western Indian state of Rajasthan collapsed, said officials and local news reports.
Rescue missions are progressing as about forty workers are still missing after the bridge, which was being built over the Chambal river, collapsed on Friday morning.
The construction was being carried out by Gammon India and Hyundai India, and two of their senior officials have been arrested in connection with the mishap.
Following the mishap, Indian federal government ordered the two construction companies to compensate the families of the dead construction workers with a million rupees each.
In addition, the state government has announced a compensation of Rs 200,000 for the families of the dead and Rs 100,000 for the injured.
