Former ABC-TV broadcaster Dave Diles died Saturday at his Ohio home from complications of a stroke. He was 78.
Diles hosted "Wide World of Sports" and the "Prudential College Football Scoreboard" in the 1970s and 1980s for ABC. Among his more notable assignments were the Olympics and Indianapolis 500.
He was also an icon in Detroit, working for WXYZ-TV and WXYZ-AM radio, hosting the popular "Dial Dave Diles" sports talk show.
He also co-authored eight books, including biographies about NFL great Terry Bradshaw and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin.
Diles, who attended Ohio University, was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
