Impressionist Edgar Degas' painting 'Les Choristes' worth around US$45 million was stolen from Cantini museum in south France's port city of Marseilles. The small pastel work with a dimension of 32 cm x 27 cm was finished in 1877.
Museum officials came to know about the missing on Thursday morning. The museum is closed since then for investigations.
Les Choristes or the Chorus Singers is a colorful painting that depicts a line of male singers. The pastel work originally belongs to Musee D'Orsay in Paris and has been in display at the Cantini as part of an exhibition of Degas's work.
