Mannatech Announces Positive Results From Study Testing Ambrotose Complex - Update

Nutritional supplements maker Mannatech, Inc. (MTEX) Friday reported positive results from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to test the biological effects of Mannatech's flagship and proprietary product, Ambrotose complex.

In the 12-week study, it was found that healthy middle-aged adults who took one teaspoon of Ambrotose complex twice daily performed significantly better on memory tasks and were overall more positive in their mood.

The study was pioneered by Talitha Best and Eva Kemps of Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia, and Janet Bryan of the University of South Australia in Adelaide, who published their findings in the January 2010 issue of 'Developmental Neuropsychology', a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

The journal noted that the participants of the study completed alternate forms of standardized tests of cognition and self-report of measures of well-being. After the study, the participants' memory performance and indicators of well-being were found to be promising with significant beneficial and longer-term effects.

The researchers are on the way to find out the potential for the product to optimize cognitive function and well-being in older adults.

MTEX is currently trading at $3.12, up 0.12 or 4.00%, on a volume of 90K shares on the Nasdaq.
