An Iranian court prosecutor who bravely fought corruption was shot dead outside his home in the country's northwest, state media reported on Tuesday.
Two gunmen opened fire at city prosecutor Vali Hajgholizadeh in Khoy city in the northwestern province of West Azarbaijan Monday night, the Press TV reported quoting Khoy Governor Ebrahim Mohammadlu.
Hajgholizadeh, described as a prosecutor with an excellent anti-corruption record, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
Close to the Turkish border, Khoy has witnessed occasional clashes between security forces and separatist Kurdish groups.
The incident comes within a week of an Iranian university professor, known as a "devoted revolutionary," killed in a bomb attack in capital Tehran.
Masoud Mohammadi, a professor of nuclear physics at Tehran University, died last Tuesday near his home in Qeytariyeh district, north of the capital, when his booby-trapped motorcycle was exploded by remote control.
