Tuesday, EMCOR Group Inc. (EME) announced that its University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors or UMEC unit has received a contract for the installation of mechanical systems at the new U.S. Federal Courthouse in downtown San Diego, California.
UMEC will be responsible for the installation of all mechanical and plumbing systems at the 17-story, 465,000 square foot new U.S. Federal Courthouse, which includes 6 courtrooms, 12 judges' chambers, government offices and public spaces, as well as an underground parking garage. UMEC will also be involved in the renovation to the lobby of the existing Edward Schwartz U.S. Federal Courthouse.
The company stated that UMEC will utilize BIM or Building Information Modeling to facilitate installation coordination among all trades on this project. The new courthouse will be built to meet the requirements for a LEED Accredited Silver Facility. Project completion is scheduled for November 2012.
