Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Turns To Q4 Profit - Update

Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc. (ASX) on Friday reported a profit for the fourth-quarter ended December 31, 2009, as revenues increased year-on-year, driven by strong performance in IC Packaging segment.

Net income for the fourth-quarter was NT$3.45 billion or NT$0.66 per share, compared with a net loss of NT$800 million or NT$0.15 per share prior year period.

Earnings per equivalent ADS for the quarter were US$0.102, versus a loss per equivalent ADS of US$0.023 in the year-ago period

Total net revenues for the quarter increased to NT$26.3 billion from NT$18.31 billion in the comparable period. Revenues in IC Packaging segment for the quarter grew to NT$21.13 billion from NT$14.00 billion in the prior year period. Testing revenues for the quarter were NT$4.56 billion, up from NT$3.83 billion a year ago.

Fourth-quarter operating income surged to NT$3.96 billion from NT$752 million in the previous year period.

Net income for the year ended December 31, 2009 rose to NT$6.74 billion or NT$1.29 per share from NT$6.16 billion or NT$1.12 per share in the earlier period. Earnings per equivalent ADS for the year were US$0.195, up from US$0.178 in the same quarter a year ago.

Full-year total net revenues declined to NT$85.77 billion from NT$94.43 billion in the previous year period.

ASX closed Thursday's trading session at $3.93, down $0.11 or 2.72%.
