TSX Down At Open Monday On Lack Of Follow-up Buying

Bay Street opened lower on Monday on widespread selling with financials, energy and gold stocks turning in particularly poor performances. The S&P/TSX Composite Index was down 42.66 points or 0.38% to 11,180.46.

The Gold Index declined 0.89% despite a marginal rise in the price of bullion. Rand Gold (GOLD.TO) was down 1.46% and Kinross Gold (K.TO) gave in 1.78%.

Among energy plays, Baytex Energy (BTE_UN.TO) shed 1.15% and Imperial Oil (IMO.TO) lost 0.89%. However, Encana Corp (ECA.TO) added 0.18%.

Fertilizer maker Potash Corp (POT.TO) eased 0.14% despite positive news on the demand scenario. Meanwhile, Agrium Inc. (AGU.TO) edged up 0.10%.

Bombardier Inc (BBD_A.TO) rose a marginal 0.18% after it said it has bagged an additional order for 48 TALENT 2 trains from Deutsche Bahn for $272 million.
