Pound Mixed Against Majors

During early European deals on Tuesday, the pound showed mixed trading against other major currencies. The pound slipped to new multi-week lows against the franc and the euro. Against the dollar and the yen, the pound pared its Asian session gains.

At 4:35 am ET, the pound plunged to a new multi-week low of 1.6653 against the Swiss franc. The current quote for the pound-franc pair is 1.6656. The pair was worth 1.6732 at Monday's New York session close.

The pound fell to a new multi-week low of 0.8816 versus the euro at 5:00 am ET. Presently, the euro is worth 0.8815 against the pound, compared to previous day's New York session close of 0.8769.


The pound pared its Asian session gains against the yen. Moving down from a high of 140.27 hit at 2:25 am ET, the pound slipped to 139.78 at 5:00 am ET. As of now, the pound is trading at 139.77 versus the yen. The pound-yen pair closed yesterday's New York session at 138.99.

Against the U.S. dollar, the pound fell to 1.5577 at 5:00 am ET moving down from a peak value of 1.6072 touched earlier. The pound is now worth 1.5577 versus the greenback. The pound-greenback pair closed Monday's New York session at 1.550.

There are no significant economic reports scheduled for release in the upcoming hours. However, from the U.S. wholesale inventories report for December is slated for release.
