Tuesday, XL Capital Ltd. (XL) reported a fourth-quarter net loss attributable to ordinary shareholders of $40.3 million or $0.12 per share, compared to a loss attributable to ordinary shareholders of $1.43 billion or $4.33 per share in the same quarter last year.
Operating income for the quarter was $235.8 million or $0.69 per share, compared to $189.5 million or $0.57 per share in the year ago quarter.
On average, 14 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.39 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenues for the quarter was $1.45 billion, compared to $1.11 billion in the comparable quarter last year. Analysts expected the company to report revenue of $1.16 billion for the quarter.
