Biodel To Present At Basel Conference

At the 3rd International Conference on Advanced Technologies and Treatments for Diabetes in Basel, Switzerland, on February 12, Sol Steiner, CEO of Biodel Inc. (BIOD) will review and update key data of the company's two late-stage studies of VIAject.

VIAject, Biodel's lead product candidate is a rapid-acting form of injectable human insulin for meal-time use by patients with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. The company submitted a new drug application to the FDA for clearance to market VIAject as a treatment for diabetes late last December. The decision related to the VIAject NDA as to whether or not it has been accepted for review by the FDA will be known by early March.

According to Biodel, its clinical studies have demonstrated that patients receiving VIAject had faster reductions in blood glucose activity, reduced risks of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia and less weight gain than patients who received recombinant human insulin.

BIOD, which has been trading in the range of $3.22-$6.02 in the last twelve months, closed Wednesday's trading session at $3.45.
