US 'committed To' Terror Suspect Headley's Trial Over 26/11 Mumbai Attacks

The United States is committed to the trial of terror suspect David Headley charged with plotting the 26/11 Mumbai carnage and ensure a severe penalty to him, US Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer said Thursday.

Roemer, who acknowledged that both India and the US faced a common threat posed by terrorism, vowed to track down people like Headley and other "blood thirsty" terrorists and bring them to justice.

According to the US diplomat, Washington and New Delhi were working in close cooperation to enhance security and safety in order to foil terrorist designs.

"They (terrorists) can strike very quickly in a bloodthirsty way into any part of the globe and this is something that our President and your Prime Minister is taking very seriously", Roemer told reporters in Bangalore.

He reiterated that the U.S. was ready to provide any assistance in the Pune blast investigation if India sought it.

On the ever expanding engagement between US and India, the Ambassador pointed out that there were various avenues for growth including fighting piracy, maritime, defense exercises, weapon procurement and humanitarian causes, with the onus resting on the Indian government.
