Mall- and Web-based specialty retailer Hot Topic, Inc. (HOTT), Wednesday reported a decline in comparable store sales for the fiscal month of February along with a decline in monthly sales. The company's Hot Topic store concept recorded a decline in same store sales, while Torrid same store sales increased.
The City of Industry, California-based company's comparable store sales for February declined 7.0%, compared to a 10% rise in the same period last year.
Total sales for the month declined 5.3% to $54.2 million from the year-ago month.
By division, comparable store sales of Hot Topic declined 11.2%, compared to a rise of 12.4% a year ago. Sales of Hot Topic declined 10.2% to $39.6 million from last year.
Torrid comparable store sales, however, increased 8.5%, while the division reported a 4.8% rise in comparable store sales in the same month last year. Torrid sales for the month increased 10.4% to $14.6 million from the prior-year period.
HOTT closed Wednesday's trading at $6.25, up 0.04 or 0.64%, on a volume of 0.70 million shares on the Nasdaq. In after hours, the stock further gained 0.04 or 0.64%, trading at $
