Barnes & Noble Names Dan Gilbert EVP Customer Service, Operations - Update

Bookseller Barnes & Noble, Inc. (BKS) announced Tuesday the appointment of Dan Gilbert as Executive Vice President, operations and customer service. Gilbert joins the company from Cisco Systems where he was the Vice President of customer operations.

Formerly, Gilbert served as Vice President, customer service and quality for Palm, Inc. Prior to that, he has worked with the Webvan Group. Also, he has worked as a consultant with A.T. Kearney, Andersen Consulting, and McKinsey & Company.

Gilbert's responsibilities in the company are managing warehousing and fulfillment to the 723 Barnes & Noble bookstores, customer service operations, the company's BN.com direct-to-consumer operations, and the end-to-end supply chain for the company's nook product line.

"Dan is a perfect fit for Barnes & Noble as we leverage our world class brick and mortar stores to scale as a major e-commerce retailer and digital media company with multi-channel capabilities," said William Lynch, chief executive officer, Barnes & Noble Inc.

BKS shares are currently trading at $23.96, up $0.06 or 25% on a volume of 636,956 shares on the NYSE.
