United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will host on Tuesday an 'Iftar' dinner as part of the observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Invited guests, including some of the young American Muslim leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators, will take part in the Iftar scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Loy Henderson Auditorium at the Department of State, Washington, D.C.
This is in line with the Secretary's commitment to engaging the "next generation" at the grassroots level, a State Department spokesman said in a statement. Special Representative to Muslim Communities Farah Pandith will host a special "Generation Change" event prior to the Iftar.
There will be discussions focusing on issues the young Muslim leaders have identified as important to their generation, as well as key ways to become a "change maker" for their generation.
Clinton will deliver a video address, followed by brief remarks by Pandith. Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa, creator of "The 99," Hana Siddiqi and Kauthar Umar, co-producers of "New Muslim Cool," and comedian Ahmed Ahmed will also speak on the occasion.
Muslims believe it was in the month of Ramadan the Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohamed. It is a month of reflection, fasting, charity, fellowship and compassion for the 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide.
