Nevada Republicans announced late Wednesday that the state's presidential caucus has officially been moved up in response to a similar move by Florida.
The Nevada GOP said that the presidential nomination contest will be held on January 14th compared to the previously planned date of February 18th. With the move, Nevada will maintain its status as the first in the west presidential caucus.
Nevada Republican Party Chairwoman Amy Tarkanian said, "I'm extremely pleased to finally have a firm date for a caucus that will greatly improve Nevada's standing and relevance in terms of national politics."
"By establishing this date, we maintain Nevada's standing as one of the first four 'carve-out' states and as the very first in the west," she added.
The move by Nevada comes after Florida bucked Republican Party rules and bumped its primary up to January 31st. South Carolina subsequently rescheduled its primary for January 21st.
With the moves, the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary are likely to be scheduled earlier in January in an effort to maintain their roles as the first in the nation contests.
