Taiwan-based AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) Monday noted the commencement of trial in the Department of Justice's case against the company which also names as defendants AU Optronics's US subsidiary and six senior executives. The anti-trust case alleges the fixing of prices of thin film transistor-based liquid crystal displays, or TFT-LCDs, by the defendants, causing gross losses to competitors in the region of $500 million.
In its statement, AU Optronics claimed that the charges were unwarranted and its executives innocent. Other corporations indicted in the price-fixing case, including Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (SSNLF.PK) and Sharp Corp. (SHCAY.PK) have previously pleaded guilty and agreed to pay the stipulated fines. Au Optronics's case is being heard by the U.S. District Court for the Northen District of California in San Francisco.
