Earnings Watch For January 9 (AA, MTB)

Alcoa, Inc. (AA) will kickstart corporate earnings season today. Marking the unofficial commencement of the earnings season, the aluminum producer is expected to report a loss of $0.02 per share on revenues of $5.74 billion for the fourth quarter. In the prior-year quarter, the company earned $0.21 per share on revenues of $5.65 billion. The year-ago results were positively affected by higher pricing, continued strengthening in most end markets, improved productivity and the absence of the negative impact of unusual items. The shares closed Friday's regular trade at $9.16. (The stock up about 12% in Q1; MA(50)- $9.68; MA(100)- $10.30; 52-wk H/L $18.47/$8.45)

M&T Bank Corp. (MTB) is due to post quarterly results. For the fourth quarter, earnings are expected to decline year-over-year to $1.48 per share from $1.59 per share. Also, the company is anticipated to record revenues of $992.58 million, higher than $861.04 million recorded a year ago. MTB closed Friday's trading session at $79.45. (The stock rose almost 1% in Q1; MA(50)- $73.58; MA(100)- $73.24; 52-wk H/L $91.05/$66.40)

Acuity Brands, Inc. (AYI), HB Fuller Co. (FUL), Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc. (SCHN) and ADTRAN Inc. (ADTN) will also report their results today.
