The multistate outbreak of human Salmonella typhimurium infections linked to ground beef purchased from Hannaford Supermarkets appears to be over, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC.
On December 15, 2011, Scarborough, Maine-based grocery chain Hannaford recalled an undetermined amount of fresh ground beef products due to contamination with Salmonella typhimurium. The recall was initiated due to concerns about illnesses caused by an outbreak of salmonellosis that may be associated with use and consumption of fresh in-store ground beef prepared in and purchased at Hannaford stores.
According to the final update provided by CDC, a total of 20 persons infected with Salmonella typhimurium were reported from 7 states namely, Hawaii, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.
