Commodities Drive TSX Higher At Open Monday

Bay Street stocks opened higher Monday amid buying across a variety of sectors, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index gaining 54.78 points or 0.44 percent to 12,444.20.

The Diversified Materials Index was up over 1 percent, with First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) and Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) adding around 2 percent each.

In the oil patch, Celtic Exploration (CLT.TO) gained over 3 percent, while Canadian Oil Sands (COS.TO) was adding over 2 percent.

Bombardier Inc. (BBD_A.TO) rose nearly 2 percent after announcing that its aerospace division got orders for five Q400 NextGen airliners, valued at $160 million.

Meanwhile, gold stocks were marginally lower. Goldcorp. (G.TO) and Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) slipped close to 1 percent each.

Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) edged down 0.25 percent after announcing that it would divest its 20.4 percent stake in struggling Russian miner Highland Gold.
