At Least 38 Injured In Brazil Train Collision

At least 38 people have been injured after a maintenance engine rammed into the back end of a passenger train in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, local media reports citing officials said Wednesday.

The incident took place at at the Vila Clarice station in northern Sao Paulo. The Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) passenger train was waiting at the station when the maintenance engine rammed into its back end.

Two of the injured were said to be in critical condition after suffering head trauma. Most of those injured were provided with medical treatment at the site of the accident, while more serious cases were rushed to hospital.

Although the accident disrupted train service in the city for some time, the services are now back on schedule. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.
