Ultrapar Participacoes S.A. (UGP), a Brazil-based company engaged in fuel distribution, chemicals and storage for liquid bulk, reported a 10 percent decline in fourth-quarter profit from last year. An increase in net sales in the quarter was offset by higher costs.
Net earnings attributable to the company's shareholders for the fourth quarter declined to R$220.1 million or R$0.41 per share from R$244.7 million or R$0.46 per share in the prior-year period.
However, net sales for the quarter rose to R$12.76 billion from R$11.26 billion in the year-ago period.
